Position Overview
This position is part of the BOS Phoenix Educ Resource Center, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Education Specialist (School Improvement) you will be responsible for working on a team at an Education Resource Center (ERC) to improve outcomes for Indian students in the region through targeted, data-driven, results-oriented professional development and technical assistance to school leaders, teachers and other educators.Duties
As a Education Specialist (School Improvement), GS-1701-13, your typical work assignments will include the following under supervision:- Support school leaders and school-based leadership teams in the effective use of a research-based school improvement Model with a proven record of meeting and exceeding proficiency standards.
- Provide professional development and technical assistance, including coaching and specific tools, to school leaders on a range of topics.
- Assist school leaders, teachers and other educators in developing and implementing a school curriculum, instruction and assessment, teaching methods, staff professional development aligned to Common Core State Standards and applicable state standards.
- Identify and coordinate other external resources, including experts from other Education Resource Centers (ERCs), Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) and other agencies and organizations to support the successful development and implementation of school improvement plans.

Degree: that included or was supplemental by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position.
-OR-
Combination of education and experience - courses equivalent to a major in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications requirements below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
GS-13: Applicant must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that include: serving as an analyst and advisor in the implementation and management of School Improvement Program strategies to meet the goals and objectives to improve student achievement; establishing goals, measuring results, report progress in programs in compliance with the Government Performance Results Act (GPRA); evaluates policies and practices concerning the academic improvement; provides guidance of regulations to ensure individuals with disabilities an equality to improve educational results.
Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level. Learn more about what is time-in grade.
