Position Overview

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a ELECTRONICS MECHANIC, Position Description Number D0876000 and is part of the MD AASF, National Guard.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to perform repair, maintenance, modification, overhaul and installation of complex electronic systems and/or a portion of a complete electronic integrated system involving work on a number of subsystems but not requiring the integration of all operable subsystems into a functional integrated system. This position is responsible for the following duties:

Troubleshoots, inspects, installs, maintains, overhauls, repairs, and modifies complete operational systems consisting of numerous complex integral components. Examples of equipment worked on include: navigational radios, Doppler or inertial navigation systems, global positioning systems, automatic planning systems, night vision systems, targeting systems, communications radios, flight control and stabilization systems, weapons systems, aircraft survivability equipment, specialized mission equipment and similar electronic and navigational equipment.

Completes operational checks, inspections, tests and troubleshooting of line replaceable unit (LRU). Isolates unusual malfunctions using technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams, tools and test equipment including automatic test equipment. Completes bench check, testing, repair, inspection, modification, programming, reprogramming, mating, adjusting, alignment, and analyzing of LRUs and shop replaceable units.

Recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates materiel deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data and assists in design changes as necessary.

When designated on NGB Flying Status Orders, serves as member of flight crew for the purpose of diagnosing and recording malfunctions, or otherwise determining maintenance and repair requirements.

Guides lower-level mechanics in performance of tasks. Conducts on-the-job training on assigned systems and related support equipment and tasks to include classroom instruction as necessary.

Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE
: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicant's knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions, and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.

Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated based on duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience and/or training must show possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position.

Requirements

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service. Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation. May be required to successfully complete a probationary period. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Must be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance within one year of appointment.

This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
