Basic Requirement for Industrial Hygiene Technician: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assessing or assisting in the assessment of work practices or conditions for health and safety hazards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-8). OR Education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position such as Industrial Hygiene, Safety & Occupational Health Management. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.

About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, Texas. Duties
- Inspect work areas, conduct assessments to evaluate existing potential health hazards, analyze findings, prepare reports, and recommend solutions to problems.
- Enter data collected from surveys or air samples into Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Reporting System (DOEHRS-IH) database.
- Perform sampling using standard methods to establish the nature and degree of hazards, and industrial products; and check compliance with Threshold Limit Values (TLV) or Permissible Exposure Limits (PEL).
- Perform respirator fit testing; and provide worker training on respirator selection, usage, and care.
- Maintain records associated with maintenance and calibration of equipment.
