Basic Requirement for Dentist (General Practice-Dentistry): Education: Applicants must possess a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Experience Required: A. Applicants must have completed a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science.OR B. Applicants must have three years of professional dentistry experience and/or training, equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12).OR C. Applicants must have completed a residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science AND professional dentistry experience and/or training equivalent to the next lower grade level (GP-12). When combining residency program and professional dentistry experience and/or training to qualify, the total must be equal to or greater than three years. Note for Qualifying Experience: Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position. Medical Requirement: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color. The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary and this will be provided to you once approved.
Position Overview
About the Position: Incumbent will serve as a Dentist (General Practice) for a Defense Health Agency (DHA) Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) - Naval Base Health Clinic Mayport. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Duties
- Perform a full range of general dentistry restorative and preventive procedures, as well as applies new advanced developments on very difficult cases within the scope of clinical privileges granted by the Commanding Officer.
- Use knowledge and comprehension of the physical sciences underlying the practice of dentistry, professional knowledge of principles, practices, and theories of dentistry, skill in diagnosis and treatment planning of an advanced professional nature.
- Perform various administrative duties in the management of a dental practice/clinic using knowledge of management policies and practices.
- Possess considerable skill in administering treatment and procedures to include, but not limited to: Restorations using direct (amalgams, composites, sealants) and indirect (crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays) dental restorative materials.
- Possess considerable skill in administering treatment and procedures to include, but not limited to: Perform endodontic procedures (root canal therapy).
- Possess considerable skill in administering treatment and procedures to include, but not limited to: Perform oral surgery procedures, such as removal of erupted and unerupted teeth, residual root tips, and teeth with exposed roots.
- Possess considerable skill in administering treatment and procedures to include, but not limited to: Perform oral surgery procedures, such as removal of erupted and unerupted teeth, residual root tips, and teeth with exposed roots.
- Possess considerable skill in administering treatment and procedures to include, but not limited to: Perform prosthetic work to replace missing teeth, including where there is lack of bone support for dentures, and restore compromised teeth.
