Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes review and analyze inpatient records for compliance with established standards; use of medical terminology; obtain proper authorization before releasing information from patient records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Position Overview
About the Position: Serves as a Medical Records Technician and receptionist/release of information clerk of the Data Flow Branch, Medical Information Services Division, Patient Administration, and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth Virginia. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
- Assurance of the acquisition of complete medical information for each discharged/death patient cared for by this medical treatment facility.
- Review patient information on documents to prevent incomplete/inaccurate data.
- Ensure proper sequence of documents, presence of proper reports, all required signatures, and inclusion of sufficient data to document diagnosis, treatment rendered, results obtained and quality patient care.
- Maintain a list of overdue charts on a weekly basis.
- Retrieve inpatient records from the medical record archive system for healthcare professionals to complete deficiencies and for technicians to process coding requirements.
