Position Overview

Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is looking for the best and brightest to join our Team! Duties

This position provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Programs (CYP). The duties of this position are developmental in nature and designed to provide experience and training to qualify for mandatory advancement to higher level positions leading to the full performance position.


The incumbent works under close direction of supervisor or other higher graded employee performing routine child care and youth development tasks, following written and verbal step-by-step instructions. Work is observed and reviewed in detail, while in progress and upon completion, to ensure and assess trainee's progress and to evaluate competency of training objectives and readiness for further training. Training will be of a progressively more responsible and specialized nature associated with the child care and youth development operations. These duties are performed to increase knowledge of child care and youth development duties and responsibilities and to develop skills for advancing to the higher-level positions. The work includes a wide variety of activities in CYP.


The incumbent serves as a mandated reporter as prescribed by local policy in the case of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect.

Overview of Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in implementing planned, developmentally appropriate activities, schedules, and routines for children/youth using prepared or developed curriculum, activity plans, and materials which includes group and individual activities.
  • Assists with attending to the developmental needs of children/youth in assigned area, including relationship building.
  • Works cooperatively as a member of a team and exhibits strong interpersonal skills with children, youth, and adults.
  • Follows and promotes safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices.
  • Assists in supervising children and youth during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings, and during special events.
  • Responds to minor illness or injury, renders aid as needed, and completes and submits
    accident/incident report documentation.
  • The incumbent is required to have mobility necessary to ensure safety of children and youth and
    engage in repetitive actions such as walking, standing, bending, stooping, and sitting on the floor.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Be able to lift and carry children and objects up to 45lbs independently and over 45lbs with assistance.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physicals, thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.
  • Must complete all DoW and Service training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and any required certifications. Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.

 

Note: This position is identified as a Test Designated Position (TDP). The incumbent is subject to random drug testing because duties must be performed with a high level of productivity, reliability and judgment to prevent adversely affecting personnel safety, and causing risk/damage to government property, and/or significant adverse impact to day-to-day operations. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position.
