Basic Requirements for Speech/Language Pathologist: Degree: A graduate degree (or higher-level degree) that included 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology with approved clinical practice from an education program that was approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech/Language Pathology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes treating patients with communication impairments; providing education to patients and their family; and conducting patient assessments for speech and other related disorders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center in the Directorate of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic in Honolulu, Hawaii. Duties

• Treat patients with mild to severe and complex impairments of communication.
• Develop individualized plans of care tailored to each patient's needs.
• Perform a full range of diagnostic tests to evaluate communication and swallowing functions.
• Diagnose deficits of speech, language and cognition through the selective use of specialized test instruments.
• Provide counseling and education to patients and their family.
• Coordinate care with physicians, social workers, psychologists, occupational therapist and physical therapist.
