Position Overview
The Dishwasher (Food Service Worker) provides both the flexibility and the knowledge to multitask in a restaurant and/or catering BOH atmosphere. This position may be assigned to any of the Retail Dining and Hospitality departments within the Naval Academy Business Services Division (NABSD), part of the U. S. Naval Academy's Non-Appropriated Fund Instrumentality (NAFI), Annapolis, Maryland. NAFI is an entity that generates its own funds through its operations, and is not funded by Congress.Duties
- Maintains water and detergent levels in dishwasher; removes strainer pans, inspection doors, etc., for proper cleaning of dishwasher, inside and out; removes calcium deposits as required; and restores room to orderliness.
- Cleans any equipment or facility located in the food service area and dining room.
- Assists with unloading food from delivery trucks and placing in correct location.
- Moves heavy garbage cans and places trash in proper receptacles.
- Position involves prolonged standing, walking, reaching, stooping, pushing, pulling, and bending. Frequent light to moderate lifting of objects weighing up to 20 pounds. Uses assistance from other workers for moving objects weighing more than 20 pounds.
- Work is performed in kitchen areas where the steam and heat from cooking equipment often cause uncomfortable high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted. It is usually noisy from food service activities. The employee is regularly exposed to hot liquids, hot working surfaces, sharp cutting blades. There is the danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been dropped.
- Additional duties may include preparing a variety of food items and box lunches, stocking retail areas with food service items, and maintaining inventory of stock.
- Responsible for complying with standard methods and procedures such as conduct, etiquette, dress code, serving techniques and complete familiarity with the beverages and food served.
Qualifications & Requirements
In order to meet the basic requirement of the Dishwasher (FSW) position, NA-7408-02, you must meet following:Experience that has equipped you with the ability to perform the duties of a dishwasher (food service worker), which may include, but are not limited to operating and cleaning grills, fryers, ovens, and dish-washing machines, using a 3-compartment sink, cleaning floors and work stations, etc.
YOU WILL BE RATED ON THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs) FOR THIS POSITION:
- Experience working in a restaurant in Back of the House. Dish washing experience and/or cold food prep skills preferred.
- Experience in operating, breaking down, and cleaning electrical equipment in a restaurant environment, such as, grills, fryers, ovens, and dish-washing machines.
- Experience using a 3-compartment sink and dish machine.
- Janitorial experience with floors and work station surfaces.
- Ability to follow instructions and labels for the use of cleaning chemicals.
Conditions of Employment
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance – requires 18 years of age
